Where It All Began...

​Today, I thought I would share a bit of my backstory of how I came to teach Astrology.

I started practicing Astrology about 10 years ago, and loved giving my one-on-one ​

readings that created warm, fuzzy validation and clarity for folks (still do).

But even though I was supporting myself as an Astrologer, I still saw myself as an Artist first and foremost.

And the reason for that was because I still felt that art conveyed a truer picture of the Soul than words alone.

So my business was, for many years, mostly oriented around my first offering - Soul Map Mandala paintings (the Birth Chart explained in purely symbolic, visual language).

Until, that is, about 4 years ago.

In early 2017 I was asked by a friend to teach an 'Intro to Astrology' workshop for an event she was creating.  So I began wrangling as best I could the vastness of Astrology into something that could be taught in a few hours.

My only teaching experience up till that point had been my many years of teaching afterschool art classes to elementary school kids, so I started where I knew to start.

And how do kids learn?  Through hands on crafts.

I wondered if I might be able to take my skill sets I learned through teaching kids the language of art, and create a workshop that uses those same methods to teach adults the language of astrology.

Because really, when we learn a new language, it doesn't matter if your 4 or 40, you still start with the same 'my name is ___, what is your name?' or 'I like fish, do you?' silly kid-like practice sentences - so what if I took that same method and taught the language of Astrology with it?

After many months and many trips to Kinkos (because this was waaaaay before I had my tech renaissance of 2020 which finally brought me into the 21st century), and many patient hours of my husband and I drawing out in character form all the Planets, Signs and Houses of Astrology....

....the Crash Course Workshop was born.

So I took my totally unique and totally weird 'kindergarten astrology' workshop (complete with gluesticks and scissors) to the event, and crossed my fingers that the participants of the event wouldn't hate it.

After about 30 minutes into giving the workshop, I started noticing all of the participants' joy-filled eyes and excited comments, and I knew I had nothing to fear...

...they freakin' LOVED it!! :)

I was very proud of myself, and thought "Whew! Took a risk and it all worked out. Now that that's over, I can relax." 

...But the Universe had other plans ;)

After the workshop, two of the participants came up and said "that was amazing!  Do you teach anything else?"

So I created about 4 more classes for them.

Then word got out and even more folks wanted to learn astrology in my artistic/playful style.

So I created 10 classes. Then 20. Then 40.

And now that playful workshop that started it all has grown into not only something I teach as a stand alone workshop, but also into a year long Astrology School!

If you told me 5 years ago that I would completely invent my own school, and then have that be my profession, I would have thought you were crazy.

But that's exactly what the Universe had planned for me :)

And, to top it all off, I have found that I love teaching Astrology, even more than I love art!!  (Another thing my 5-years-ago Self would have balked at).

In these past 4 years, teaching Astrology has literally become not only my life's work, but also my greatest joy.

But the best part of all is the warm, fuzzy validation and clarity my teachings bring to others (dare I say even more than my readings!)
